Plot:
Grotesquerie is set in a small town where gruesome murders continue to occur, with victims being killed in bizarre and brutal ways. At the center of the story is a policewoman (Niecy Nash-Betts), who gradually realizes that these cases are not simply ordinary crimes – but may be related to a supernatural force manipulating the human mind.
The deeper she digs, the more she is drawn into the terrifying vortex between reality and fantasy, between reason and darkness. Grotesquerie is a unique combination of supernatural horror and psychological investigation, bearing the strong mark of Ryan Murphy. The film builds a suffocating, tense atmosphere full of social metaphors. Not only is the film visually terrifying, it also evokes an obsession with the hidden evil in every human being.
Niecy Nash-Betts’ performance is highly appreciated, bringing emotional depth to a character that is both strong and vulnerable.
A series not for the faint of heart, but if you love dark, multi-layered stories, Grotesquerie is definitely a choice not to be missed in 2024.
