Jimmy “The Tulip” (Bruce Willis) has traded bullets for barbecues. Once the most feared contract killer in the game, he’s settled into suburban obscurity with his wife Jill (Natasha Henstridge), doing everything he can to keep the blood-soaked memories of his past buried. But peace doesn’t last long when you’re Jimmy the Tulip. Trouble comes knocking — literally — in the form of his jittery, accident-prone former neighbor Oz (Matthew Perry).
Oz’s wife has been snatched by the ruthless Hungarian mob, and he’s convinced the only man insane enough — or lethal enough — to get her back is the very hitman who swore he was done. Against his better judgment, Jimmy finds himself dragged out of retirement and back into a storm of chaos he never asked for.
What follows is a collision course of mob wars, double-crosses, and absurd misunderstandings. Mistaken identities lead to shootouts in the wrong places, elaborate plans collapse into slapstick disasters, and every “brilliant” idea from Oz somehow makes the situation even worse. Bruce Willis slips back into the role of Jimmy with stone-faced charisma, his deadly calm only heightening the comedy around him.
