Death Valley – BBC’s new detective series, where mystery and laughter intersect

If you are a fan of comedy detective series like Only Murders in the Building, then Death Valley is the next spiritual food you cannot miss. This is a brand new crime series from BBC One, taking the audience to the peaceful Welsh countryside, where unexpected secrets are hidden.

Timothy Spall (who appeared in Mr. Turner, Harry Potter) transforms into John Chapel – a retired veteran actor, once famous for playing a TV detective. But everything changes when a real murder happens next door. Suddenly pulled into a real-life investigation, John has to “reappear in the world” as an unwilling detective.

Beside him is DS Janie Mallowan – a young, realistic and skeptical policewoman, played by Gwyneth Keyworth. This polar opposite couple is constantly at odds at first, but it is their differences that create a hidden charm and an unexpectedly effective combination in the journey to solve the crime.

With a witty storytelling style, poetic images and a plot that is very British, Death Valley is not just a normal investigation but also a journey full of emotions, surprises and laughter. Viewers will enjoy intricate cases, deep characters and a team relationship built in a very real and humane way.

📺 Death Valley will air soon on BBC One – don’t miss out on one of the most promising detective series of 2025! Premiere: 20:15, Sunday, 25/5/2025 on BBC One
